It’s that time of the month again! Here is my first set of swatches for the upcoming September Hella Handmade Creations pre-order. Part 2 of my swatches are up now, and you can find them here!
New to Hella Handmade Creations? Every month, HHC offers exclusive polishes from your favorite indie nail polish brands during a week-long pre-sale. The September pre-sale will be open from September 14th at 12:01 AM EST until September 21 at 11:59 PM Hawaiian on Hella Handmade Creations’ website. You can buy as many polishes as you want during the pre-sale. Each brand participating in HHC has picked their own theme to create specially inspired polishes.
Turtle Tootsie is introducing the shade “Loyal to the Throne”, inspired by Marvel Superheroes. This polish will be $11.00 and will have no cap.
Loyal to the Throne is a dark brown holographic with silver shimmer and gold holographic flakies. This shade was opaque for me in two coats of polish.
Here are some shots of this shade outdoors under direct sunlight.
“Curiouser and Curiouser” from Ethereal Lacquer is inspired by Alice in Wonderland. This polish will have no cap and will retail at $12.00.
Curiouser and Curiouser is described as a medium grey with holographic flakies and pink shimmer. This shade was opaque in two coats of polish.
Outdoors and under natural sunlight, the grey tone of this shade brightens up considerably. I absolutely love the shimmer in this shade!
Lilypad Lacquer is continuing to bring us the Zodiac signs with “Virgo”. My mom, dad, and sister are all Virgos, so I couldn’t wait to see this shade! Virgo will retail for $15.00 and has no cap.
Virgo is a dark navy blue packed with gold microflakies. This shade is opaque in two to three coats of polish.
When I stepped outside in this shade, the flakies stood out beautifully! Here is Virgo outdoors under direct sunlight.
In indirect light, you can really see just how many flakies are packed into Virgo!
Quixotic Polish was inspired by Parks and Recreation to create “Down to Clown”, which will be $11.00 and has no cap.
Down to Clown has a deep burgundy jelly base loaded with a rainbow of iridescent flakies and a light sprinkling of scattered holographic. This shade is opaque in two to three coats of color. The flakies are jam-packed into this red jelly and spread easily and evenly across the nail.
Here are some shots of this shade in direct sunlight.
Outdoor and in indirect light, the flakies are crazy beautiful! Flakie lovers will be all over this shade.
Sayuri was inspired by Studio Ghibli to create “The Rough Stone Within”. This polish is $12.50 and will have a cap of 130 bottles of polish.
This shade is a medium purple holographic with blue undertones filled with sparks of aqua, a mixture of holo microglitters, iridescent blue microglitters, and blue/purple colour shifting flakes. I used three coats of polish for my swatch photos.
The aqua flakies really pop in direct sunlight!
“Bad Wolf” from Chirality was inspired by Doctor Who. This glow-in-the-dark shade is $11.00 and has no cap.
Bad Wolf has an ivory base with rose and gold shimmer; rose to gold shifting shimmer; rose to gold shifting microflakies; gold microflakies; and a soft glow in the dark effect. I used three coats of polish for these swatch photos. The formula was easy to work with, but I would recommend using as few brush strokes as possible to avoid any streakiness.
I absolutely love this shade outdoors under the sunlight: the shimmer is beautiful!
This was my very first glow-in-the-dark polish, and I had so much fun with it! I have to admit, the first few nights I wore this polish, I freaked myself out. Waking up in the middle of the night and seeing pointy, glowing talons in bed next to me low-key terrified me!
“Love is Lethal” from Grace-full was inspired by DC character Star Sapphire. This shade will be $11.50 and will have a cap of 85 bottles.
Love is Lethal is a bright pink holographic with aurora shimmers and a red flash of shimmer. This shade was nearly opaque at one coat of polish, but I used two coats of polish for my swatch photos.
In the sunlight, the holographic in this shade is stunning and intense!
Here’s one more shot of that holo, because…. I love me some holographic!
If you know me or have been following my blog for a while, you know I am obsessed with Harry Potter! I’m super psyched to share Girly Bits’ Harry Potter-inspired thermal, “Checkmate”. This shade was inspired by Wizard’s Chess. This polish will be $13.00 and has a cap of 75 bottles.
In the warm state, Checkmate is golden-bronze with bronze and gold metallic microflakes; gold holographic microglitters; and copper-bronze-gold metallic color shifting flakes. This shade was opaque in two coats of polish for me.
In the cold state, Checkmate transitions from golden-bronze to an antique oil-rubbed bronze shade.
Jim Kay’s illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone has a phenomenal full-page photo of the life-size chess scene. Here’s a shot of this shade with this illustration.
Here are two shots of this shade under direct sunlight. The first shows the complete warm state; the second shows this shade mid-transition with the warm state at the tips and the cold state at the base of my nail.
Here is one last shot of this flakie-filled polish in outdoor, indirect light.
